Past Forward celebrates how modern music is influenced by classic songs and performances from the past. This week we feature the music of the electronica group All Hail The Silence with their single The Alarm. They are a super group of sorts featuring electronic legend BT and singer Christian Burns. Their debut album ‡ was released last month and the band is supporting it by warming up for Howard Jones on his Transform tour.
The song has a singable chorus and electronic dance beats which bring to mind one hit wonder single The Promise from When In Rome. In the middle of listening to The Alarm, I found myself wanting to break out and sing “I’m sorry but I’m just thinking of the right words to say”.
Listen for yourself and see if you can hear the influence.

Can we walk
Let’s go down to the shore
Where the lighthouse has fallen to its knees
There’s a note washed up on the beach
And it’s written from another wounded soul
When is the time for lovers?
‘Cause I can’t take thisYou can, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, ’cause I’m waiting for you‘Cause one day, one day we’ll be together
We’ll be running forever
My love, my loveIt’s the love, going off for the night
As the wanted are hiding from the windows
I get up, ’cause I’m drawn to the sound
As it pulls me, I throw the note back on the groundWhere is the sign for lovers?
‘Cause I can’t take thisYou can, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, ’cause I’m waiting for you‘Cause one day, one day we’ll be together
We’ll be running forever
My love, my loveI try to find you, but you’re not lost, you see
I can’t rewind you, it’s physical
So try to find me, ’cause I want the same if you’d only live, thoughYou can, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, you can feel it
If you don’t stop, ’cause I’m waiting for you‘Cause one day, one day we’ll be together
We’ll be running forever
My love, my loveAnd we could be the symmetry, a manic mode of way
I’m getting closer now, I’m getting closer now
And we could be a symphony, you’ll hear from miles away
I’m getting closer now, I’m getting closer, getting closer nowThis alarm, can you hear it?
This alarm, can you hear it?
This alarm, can you hear it?
Do you hear me calling now? This alarm, can you hear it?
This alarm, can you hear it?
This alarm, can you hear it?
Do you hear me calling now? This alarm, can you hear it?
This alarm, can you hear it?
This alarm, can you hear it?This alarm, can you hear it?
This alarm, can you hear it?
This alarm, can you hear it?
