Music inspired and influenced by the Drive Soundtrack
After years of inactivity, it seems like every week we get a new release involving Johnny Jewel. Chromatics and Desire are going back and forth with new material and this week it’s time for a new song from Desire. The single is called Liquid Dreams and it’s the 3rd track off the forthcoming Escape album.…
Just days after releasing the 47 track deluxe edition of Closer To Grey, Chromatics have released a brand new track called Toy
Chromatics have released an epic deluxe edition of their 2019 Closer To Grey album containing 47 tracks. These tracks consist of the original album plus a number of instrumentals, remixes and unreleased bonus tracks.
This weeks playlist features our favorite songs from the entire catalog of Chromatics plus songs from some of the bands that Johnny Jewel is involved with on Italians Do It Better.
Today’s song of the day features the debut single from the Australian band Eternal Crush. For those first being introduced to the band, they remind us of what it would sound like if fellow Australian singer Hatchie recorded a song for the Drive soundtrack.
This weeks compilation features the latest new releases in synthpop with songs that sound like they would be featured in a soundtrack to a sequel to the Drive motion picture. This features some staples in the genre such as Chromatics and Electric Youth plus some of my favorite new artists Wolfclub and Cannons.
With all of the recent commotion about the Chromatics tour, fellow Drive-era artist Electric Youth decided to join the party with their first new single off of the forthcoming album, Memory Emotion, due out on August 9.
One of our favorite synthpop bands these days may be one that’s not getting enough attention. Mint Julep is a project featuring husband and wife duo Keith and Hollie Kenniff. They continue to put out amazing synthpop albums and singles that will appeal to fans of bands like Chromatics.
The husband/wife Kennniff duo, otherwise known as Mint Julep, have release a cover of Talk Talk’s It’s My Life to pay homage to the late Mark Hollis, who passed away earlier this week due to illness. The cover is a beautifully arranged synth down tempo version that stays true to the sound of the original song, while offering enough differences to endear it to listeners.
With the release of new Chromatics and the announcement of their tour with Desire, it felt like a good time to revisit the theme of Music Inspired by the Drive Soundtrack. This is a collection of smooth synth tracks with a consistent pulsating beat. These tunes are great to listen to while driving in the sunset and wearing your favorite pastel colors.
One of the worlds biggest mysteries seems to be, when will Chromatics finally release another album. While we don’t have answers, we can share this lovely new single from the Italians Do It Better label darlings. This song features the Chromatics sound that we have all come to love and hopefully it’s a good sign…
Brand new synthpop from the London band that sounds like what you would get if you merged the sounds from a John Hughes soundtrack and the Drive soundtrack.
