We are devastated to hear the news that Mark Hollis, the talented singer of the legendary 80’s band Talk Talk, has reportedly passed away. While known for the iconic hit It’s My Life, Talk Talk had a number of beautifully arranged songs with thoughtful lyrics. Every year, another 80’s festival comes and goes and we always ask our readers : What 80’s band would you love to see on one of these tours. While we get a number of responses, Talk Talk is always at the top of the list and for me personally, they would be number one on my list.
The band will always be remembered for It’s My Life, Life’s What You Make It and Talk Talk. But what stood out to me was the direction that they were going in with their 1988 album Spirit Of Eden. That album toned down the pop melodies and replaced them with spiritual and ethereal vibes, possibly similar to Dead Can Dance. The tracks Eden, Desire and I Believe In You will always be special to me.

I am very shocked and saddened to hear the news of the passing of Mark Hollis. Musically he was a genius and it was a honour and a privilege to have been in a band with him. I have not seen Mark for many years, but like many musicians of our generation I have been profoundly influenced by his trailblazing musical ideas. He knew how to create a depth of feeling with sound and space like no other. He was one of the greats, if not the greatest.
