Azure Blue plays slightly-twee synthy new wave which would appeal to fans of the Junica, Trembling Blue Stars, and Lightning Seeds. This song, “Every Ending Story”, is from this Swedish band’s new EP and is among my favorites by them. I could imagine hearing this ’80s-style tune being played over the closing credits of a John Hughes film. The bubbling synths, driving guitar, and bouncy instrumentation nicely complement the slightly forlorn mood of Tobias Isaksson’s soft vocals. The lyrics are evocative but a little hard to decipher:
Was it dreaming a dream of the dawn of a downfall?
A milky way sundown, a moon full of dust
And a satellite shop got a room full of things
However, it’s the lushly produced sounds and well-executed arrangements that stay with me for repeated listens. Overall, this is one of my favorite songs from this year so far, and you should do yourself a favor by checking out this song (and other songs by this band) as soon as you can.
