OMD are celebrating their 40th anniversary with a greatest hits tour launching in the UK and Europe. The tour is labeled “Souvenir – OMD 40 Years”. In addition to playing all of their hits, they will also be including some early songs that have rarely been played live.

The protagonist of High Fidelity, lives his life by the lessons he has learned from Pop music. Everything in his life, is a Top 5 list including romantic interludes. Rob’s credo…what really matters is what you like, not what you are like… Books, records, films—these things matter. Hornby’s’ novel was published in 1995 with the John Cusack starring film version to follow in 2000. What about today though? With so many of us identifying with Rob Gordon, who is our voice of today? Royal Caribbean is offering an all inclusive 80s cruise MC’d by original MTV VJ’s Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman and Alan Hunter. This years attendees feature Bananarama, The B-52’s, Berlin, Scandal, Tony Hadley (from Spandau Ballet), Tony Lewis (from The Outfield) plus Asia, Lita Ford, Midnight Star, The Motels, Big Country, The Jets, Bow Wow Wow, Katrina And The Waves and more.
On May 17 The National will release their 9th studio album I Am Easy To Find. The first single off the album is called You Had Your Soul With You and it features vocals from David Bowie bassist Gail Ann Dorsey. The band will be hitting the road in support of the album with bands Courtney Barnett and Alvvays.
Ex-New Order bass player, Peter Hook, auctioned of a variety of memorabilia at an auction this past week. In this auction, Hook has originally intended on selling letters between Ian Curtis and his former girlfriend Annik Honoré. Just prior to the event, he changed his mind and withdrew the submissions. Members of New Order were not happy about this decision and we quite pleased that Hook ultimately changed his mind.
The Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they will be touring North America this summer along with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. AFI will also be joining them on the tour.
Detroit’s Majestic Theatre recently welcomed an evening of genre-bending dark music to its stage, treating audiences to a trio of artists who blend synthpop, darkwave, industrial, electroclash, and dark pop in twisting litanies of mind-bending movement and melody. Danceable, but with an undercurrent of gleeful nihilism, all three bands presented the Motor City with a full night of incredible energy.
