It seems almost ironic that sunny, colorful Miami is home to a musical project like Astari Nite. Quintessentially goth, cemented by their blended Cure-meets-Bowie darkling post-punk sound, their somber tones and poetic lyrical memento mori belie a celebration of the resplendence of this cobwebbed corner of the music scene.
The post punk / dark wave band Astari Nite has just released a new single off their forthcoming album “Here Lies”. The album will be out this winter, but we get our first taste with the track “Dearly Beloved”. While compared to artists like Drab Majesty and even The Cure, this track reminds me of a darker version of The Psychedelic Furs.
I’ve often felt that Feeding Fingers’ music has had a tendency toward quiet desperation, and, at times, a sense of holding itself back from its own full potential. But “Your Candied Laughter Crawls”, the debut single from their upcoming fifth album, is almost triumphant, musically. There is an entire metamorphosis occurring in the microcosm of this particular song, one that opens itself up to the listener like a blooming flower as it progresses from its sleepy opening notes to their book-end, with its entire story laid out in between.
This New York band’s post-punk / new wave song is a great contrast in light and dark, and should appeal to a wide spectrum of music fans. This is a nice retro trip, and although that is maybe becoming a cliche notion, this is NOT a look back at 80’s Synth. We are talking about the hazy, dreamy world New Wave/Goth vibe of Cocteau Twins, Bel Canto and The Cure. There are also more ethereal vocal vibes reminiscent of Julee Cruise, Tamaryn…
