This weeks playlist is made in memory of Mark Hollis from Talk Talk. It’s a collection of our 20 favorite tracks from the bands entire catalog
We are devastated to hear the news that Mark Hollis, the talented singer of the legendary 80’s band Talk Talk, has reportedly passed away. While known for the iconic hit It’s My Life, Talk Talk had a number of beautifully arranged songs with thoughtful lyrics.
Today celebrates the birthday of legendary director, producer and filmmaker – John Hughes. John Hughes was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1950. He went on to create some of the most memorable movies of the 80’s including Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Weird Science, Ferris Beuler’s Day Off and Home Alone. His movies tended…
Richard regales us with stories from the likes of Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Berlin and many other 80’s legends about the songs that meant the most to him personally, and the tracks he was quite literally responsible for breaking in America. Through hosting his many Video shows and his radio gigs, Richard became a rock star himself
This is a great uptempo new wave/dreampop track which provides a modern twist on a sound harkening back to the mid-1980s. This track appears to have been around in demo form since at least 2011, and we’re very glad that they included it on their new album which came out last month. The chiming guitars evoke both the nighttime fun and the bygone ’80s, while Rände Rännäli’s sparkling vocals fit the mood perfectly.
This mix is made up of rare 80’s songs acquired through a friend who worked at a record store in Europe in the early 80s. The majority of these songs never existed anywhere else but on vinyl. Each one of these songs could’ve carried a scene in any John Hughes film. A lot of these songs are now forgotten forever, besides the ones who lived the era.
Azure Blue plays slightly-twee synthy new wave which would appeal to fans of the Junica, Trembling Blue Stars, and Lightning Seeds. This song, “Every Ending Story”, is from this Swedish band’s new EP and is among my favorites by them. I could imagine hearing this ’80s-style tune being played over the closing credits of a…
This mix features brand new music from legendary 80s new wave artists. All of these songs have been released after 2010. Many of these songs are as good, if not better, then the artists original work from the 80’s. It’s great to see that these bands that we grew up with are still making relevant music today.
