Rob’s credo…what really matters is what you like, not what you are like… Books, records, films—these things matter. Hornby’s’ novel was published in 1995 with the John Cusack starring film version to follow in 2000. What about today though? With so many of us identifying with Rob Gordon, who is our voice of today? On May 17 The National will release their 9th studio album I Am Easy To Find. The first single off the album is called You Had Your Soul With You and it features vocals from David Bowie bassist Gail Ann Dorsey. The band will be hitting the road in support of the album with bands Courtney Barnett and Alvvays.

Detroit’s Majestic Theatre recently welcomed an evening of genre-bending dark music to its stage, treating audiences to a trio of artists who blend synthpop, darkwave, industrial, electroclash, and dark pop in twisting litanies of mind-bending movement and melody. Danceable, but with an undercurrent of gleeful nihilism, all three bands presented the Motor City with a full night of incredible energy.

80’s icons Alphaville have announced their first re-release of their defining album “Forever Young”. This remastered box set will be released on March 15 and features all available content from the production of the album 35 years ago.
The husband/wife Kennniff duo, otherwise known as Mint Julep, have release a cover of Talk Talk’s It’s My Life to pay homage to the late Mark Hollis, who passed away earlier this week due to illness. The cover is a beautifully arranged synth down tempo version that stays true to the sound of the original song, while offering enough differences to endear it to listeners.

New Order is joining the wave of bands using streaming media to come up with new ways to deliver content to their fans. The band has announced a YouTube series called Transmissions which will chronicle the transition of Joy Division to New Order, resulting in the story of New Orders first album Movement.
