The band’s tightly knit chemistry was apparent, with lead vocals changing between Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley, however all of the members contribute to vocals, giving an extra layer of melody to the already lush sound. The buzz of the guitars often shimmered but on tracks such as the lovely “Only With You” the band is much more subdued and the piano/synth sounds are captured and highlighted perfectly.
Alt. Rock icons, Garbage, have announced tour dates for an extended summer tour.
On May 17 The National will release their 9th studio album I Am Easy To Find. The first single off the album is called You Had Your Soul With You and it features vocals from David Bowie bassist Gail Ann Dorsey. The band will be hitting the road in support of the album with bands Courtney Barnett and Alvvays.
The Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they will be touring North America this summer along with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. AFI will also be joining them on the tour.
THE CULT has announced several North American and UK 2019 headline tour dates. If you follow the band on Bandsintown, you will have access to an exclusive pre-sale that has already started.
Following up from his groudbreaking album, Call The Comet, The Smiths guitar ace Johnny Marr has released a new single and video called Armatopia. This single is released just days after Marr announced a series of North American tour dates.
Britpop icons Stereophonics have release a new single to hold us over until they finish recording their new album. The track Chaos From The Top Down tells a story from a perspective of a 15 year old boy who has been shot, and is left laying in the road to reflect on his life as he is dying. The lyrics are based on a true story that happened outside of the home of lead singer, Kelly Jones. The song forces us to see troubled youth as more than just a victim. But rather, children who had ambition, hopes and dreams…just like everyone else.
DJ Mikey presents some his favorite indie rock, post punk and shoegaze tracks from 2019. This is a great way to hear a ton of new releases and familiarize yourself with some up and coming bands. This playlist is updated daily, so feel free to follow it on Spotify to keep up with some of the latest tunes in this genre.
The weeks compilation of music includes some of the best new modern rock tracks spanning the last few months. There are a number that we think you will enjoy, including the track from Spector which reminds us of what OMD would sound like if they were a guitar based band. There are plenty of heavy hitters included this time around which include an exciting new track from White Lies, the return of Smashing Pumpkins, brit legends James and Johnny Marr, and bangers from Metric and The Faint. We also have the latest from Piroshka, a brand new band featuring the lovely Miki Berenyi from Lush.
The indie rock bank Bloc Party has released their 5th studio album titled Hymns. This follows last years solo record Trick from their front man Kele.
The first single The Love Within is an elcetro club banger and a great way to start off the record, which features a nice balance of indie rock tunes along with some more synth-based gems. The standout track for me is Fortress which is a hot sexy number reminiscent of Kele’s solo work.
The melodic and infectious 2nd single, I Wanna Get Lost With You is from the forthcoming record, Keep The Village Alive. The single is a great sign of things to come as Kelly and Co have always had an arsenal of rockers as well as mid-tempo ballads but Jones has a tendency to stretch that unique voice of his at times. Here, he finds the perfect middle ground with guitars just punchy enough to make the song anthemic.
What is a Slobberknocker? It’s a song that gets you off your ass, bopping up and down, and possible singing at the top of your lungs. It’s a song that sets you in a frenzy on the dance floor for no apparent reason. It’s fun, it’s high energy and these are some of my favorite Slobberknockers.
