A photography exhibit titled “To Morrissey, With Love” opens today at the Elham Art Gallery in the city of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates. The gallery has issued the following statement about the exhibit
We have been following with concern and shock the unjustified hate campaigns from media towards Morrissey, for being honest and outspoken, accusing him of racism, fascism, and hate, and other none-sense.
For us at the gallery, as majority of us are Muslims, we believe that it is not true what they say about Morrissey, and from my side personally I recall an interview with NME magazine, quote “I would do anything for my Muslim friends, and I know they would do anything for me.”
Therefore, as a response from us at the gallery, and the artistic community in Ras Al Khaimah and United Arab Emirates, we decided to stand by Morrissey, as his Muslim friends, or friends in general, to acknowledge that we are aware of him as true and passionate friend, and to tell the world that we know, he’s not our enemy or hater, and dedicate a group exhibition to him as a thanks for being brave against this cruel and hypocrite world, inspired by his music and ideas that we trust very much, and we need very much in our unstable region specially. We know that it’s not nothing much or big, but this is the best we could offer.
We announced an open call for photographers, designers, and models to join this experimental group exhibition, we received more than 100 entries. Due to the small space we have we decided, to work with the best 30 applicants/artists.
We produced 35 curated photographs entitled “To Morrissey, With Love” inspired by his music and poems. The exhibition will open on Friday 6th of December 2019. And on the opening venue no meat snacks will be served to our guests, journalists, music and art lovers
