Mere days before Valentine’s Day, Robert Alfons and his musical powerhouse of a project, TR/ST, return to remind everyone that love is often challenging and can leave one lonelier than one began. “Gone” is the first single from TR/ST’s first full album release since 2015’s ‘Joyland’. The highly anticipated ‘The Destroyer, Part One’ album is slated for release in April. “Gone” sparks more melancholy than is usual for Alfons. In recent years, his sound has been evolving from straight-up EDM to paced, thoughtful offerings that still bring a dance floor clamor. The new release promises to be an eclectic one for Alfons, as he expands his repertoire and broadens his soundscape lexicon. TR/ST will embark on a tour spanning several North American cities following the release of the album this spring.
“Gone” itself is lush with warmth, and much like the singles that preceded it in 2017, holds the beautiful balance of bitter sweetness that colors Alfons’ most memorable and danceable tracks. With the skill and talent of a true producer, he brings out the layers of emotion in every piece of melody, every despondent word, as he spins a narrative centered on loss and regret. There is a story to ‘The Destroyer’, and Alfons isn’t pulling any punches to get us eager to dive into it head-first.
