One of my favorite albums of the mid 90s was Jamboreebop by State Of Grace featuring the songs Hello, And Love Will Fall and Smile. This was a band that I truly missed, until today. I was listening to some playlists on Spotify and heard this beautiful voice that immediate caught my attention…and it sounded oh so familiar. The band was Fatal Charm, a band that I had never heard of. I continued to listen to a few songs and after a while the sounds started to sound familiar. They were State Of Grace songs! I did some quick googling and was surprised to find out that Fatal Charm was the early incarnation of State Of Grace.
According to Wikipedia, Fatal Charm was an early 80s post punk band. After a few years they added Sarah Simmonds to the band to take over vocal duties. Having achieved some critical acclaim, the band was signed to RCA Records and decided to change their name to State Of Grace and take on a more electronic sound.
Fatal Charm seems to be making a comeback. Last year they released a remix album called December14 containing modern mixes of many of the early-era tracks and this month, we were treated to this brand new remix of Summer Spies that adds a drive-like tone to the song. I am keeping my fingers crossed that a new album is in the works but in the meantime…I am going to enjoy the hell out of this track. Expect to hear it on plenty of my mixes in the upcoming months 🙂
