This weeks compilations feature the latest new releases in Dreampop. This features a few familiar names such as Dido, Richard Ashcroft and Moby along with a Robin Guthrie remix of Hatchie which will remind you of the days of Cocteau Twins.
This weeks compilations feature the latest new releases in modern synthpop. This features the latest from 80’s staples Howard Jones and Blancmange. Plus, new releases from modern favorites TR/ST, Tamaryn and Maps. There are plenty of new bands to check out as well. If you haven’t heard Roosevelt, do yourself a favor and give them a listen. The track from Gesaffelstein ft Electric Youth sounds a lot like Chromatics.
With the release of new Chromatics and the announcement of their tour with Desire, it felt like a good time to revisit the theme of Music Inspired by the Drive Soundtrack. This is a collection of smooth synth tracks with a consistent pulsating beat. These tunes are great to listen to while driving in the sunset and wearing your favorite pastel colors.
Today celebrates the birthday of legendary director, producer and filmmaker – John Hughes. John Hughes was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1950. The weeks compilation of music includes some of the best new modern rock tracks spanning the last few months. There are a number that we think you will enjoy, including the track from Spector which reminds us of what OMD would sound like if they were a guitar based band. There are plenty of heavy hitters included this time around which include an exciting new track from White Lies, the return of Smashing Pumpkins, brit legends James and Johnny Marr, and bangers from Metric and The Faint. We also have the latest from Piroshka, a brand new band featuring the lovely Miki Berenyi from Lush.
This mix contains a collection of some of my favorite remixes including modern takes on classic 80s songs plus remixes of newer songs and artists. Some of my favorite mixers are on here including Dominatrix, Arthur Baker, Marsheaux and more. This is a mostly high energy mix and one that’s good to listen to when getting ready to go out for the evening.
This is Volume 3 of one of my favorite genre’s of music – music inspired by the sounds of the Drive Soundtrack. This mix features new releases that I feel would have fit perfectly on the soundtrack.
What is a Slobberknocker? It’s a song that gets you off your ass, bopping up and down, and possible singing at the top of your lungs. It’s a song that sets you in a frenzy on the dance floor for no apparent reason. It’s fun, it’s high energy and these are some of my favorite Slobberknockers.
This is Volume 2 in the mix series of songs that sound like they would be included in a modern day John Hughes Soundtrack. I used a few different approaches in picking songs. Some of these songs might perfectly fit in one of his 80s masterpieces while others are guess how the sounds that he covets might have evolved over the years.
This mix is made up of rare 80’s songs acquired through a friend who worked at a record store in Europe in the early 80s. The majority of these songs never existed anywhere else but on vinyl. Each one of these songs could’ve carried a scene in any John Hughes film. A lot of these songs are now forgotten forever, besides the ones who lived the era.
This is volume 3 in my modern synth series which features brand new synth tracks from up and coming artists along with some new releases from more established artists. All of these tracks are synth heavy and many are inspired from the new wave era in the 80s.
