UK electronic dance duo Orbital return on April 3 with their first album in eight years, Wonky. The album features collaborations with Lady Leshurr on the title track, and Zola Jesus’ Nika Rosa Danilova on ‘New France’. Along with the release of the single, the band has been releasing several remixes in the last few days. Fans of darkwave or dark, dancable electro pop are in for a treat.

Toronto trio Austra has been getting a lot of love lately, gracing the playlist of many Strangeways Radio DJs as well as placing in Best of 2011 lists from our DJs and listeners.
The electronic beats and strong vocals of Katie Stelmanis call to mind contemporaries like Florence and The Machine, Zola Jesus and Siouxsie & The Banshees on tracks like Lose It and The Beat and the Pulse from their debut record, Feel It Break.
The band just released an absolutely wild video for their latest single Spellwork, featuring all sorts of sinister behavior going on the Woods, featuring Witches in black robes, a creepy Red-Hooded Sister cult, horses and disturbing use of Watermelon.

When Strangeways Radio first launched a little more than a year ago, we asked our listeners which artists they would like to see added to the station library. Zola Jesus was the first, and most predominantly mentioned artist. Our listeners are very smart. Since then, Zola Jesus has released a few EP’s and a full length album Conatus. Zola Jesus continues to be one of the most well-received artists that we play on the station.
Zola Jesus is the work of Russian American singer/songwriter Nika Roza Danilova whose stage name combines Jesus Christ with French writer Emile Zola in a conscious attempt to alienate peers. She has just completed a US tour and is busy touring Europe for the remainder of the year.
