Pulp was feeling a bit jealous with all of the new attention bestowed upon My Bloody Valentine, Suede, Johnny Marr and Depeche Mode. Throwing their hat in the ring, they performed their new tune After You live on the Jonathon Ross show. Continue reading →

Talk about a great late Christmas present…how about a new gem from Pulp! Following a recent performance aboard the SS Coachella with LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, the band have issued the Murphy produced ‘After You’. The track was originally recording during demo sessions for the 2001 LP We Love Life.
The new track was given out as a free download in a Christmas Card to attendees of their recent homecoming at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena.

Pulp fans, buoyed by the recent reunion tour will be disappointed to learn that no new music is forthcoming. Frontman Jarvis Cocker told NME earlier this year after their reformation, that new music was the logical next step but that he wasn’t sure what the future held. Apparently that future is clear now and does not include new Pulp music Continue reading →

Not quite as revered as the 80s, the 90′s is still a decade of Britpop (Blur, Radiohead, James, Suede, Pulp, Happy Mondays), Electronica (Leftfield, The KLF, The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Daft Punk), Pop-Punk (Ash, Green Day, Weezer), Grunge Rock (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Hole), Rap (2PAC, Wu-Tang Clan, Warren G), and even heroes of the 80′s still kicking out classics (u2, REM, New Order).
Check out NME’s list of the 100 Best tracks of the Nineties and then let us know YOUR opinion? Any favorites not listed here? Anything you are appalled by that was included? Let’s hear it!

2012 is shaping up to be quite a year for Sheffield’s Pulp. Fresh off their 2011 Reunion tour, Pulp is still making major headlines. The band is scheduled to perform live on Jimmy Fallon, tonight (April 9) as precursor to their pair of sold out shows in NYC. The Radio City Music Hall dates on Tuesday April 10 (with support from Chromatics!) and Wednesday April 11 mark the first tour dates in more than a decade! They will also make a stop at San Francisco’s The Warfield in between their 2 Coachella performances.
Pulp can also been seen streaming on your computer or phone in The Beat Is the Law: Fanfare for the Common People. The film is a follow up to Eve Wood’s Made in Sheffield, which profiled bands like ABC, The Human League, Heaven 17 and Pulp (in their infancy). The Beat Is The Law is a history of the amazing Sheffield music scene, from early 80′s post-punk through the globe-conquering house boom and into Britpop. With Pulp as the through-line, the film also delves into the political and economic realities underlying the music, culminating with Pulp’s underdog triumph at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival.
Made with the full co-operation of the band, ‘The Beat Is The Law – Fanfare For The Common People‘ brings together original interviews, performances, promos, newly unearthed live footage and home videos with a great soundtrack. Featuring original interviews with Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker, Russell Senior, Candida Doyle and Nick Banks plus Richard Hawley (Longpigs), Mark Brydon (Chakk/FON/Moloko), Rob Gordon (FON/WARP Records), Adi Newton (ClockDVA) and many more, this Pulp film is a deep-fried feature documentary from the creators of the acclaimed ‘Made in Sheffield’.
