If we asked you to name the single biggest killer of men under 35 in the UK what would you say? Cancer? Heart Attack? Car Accidents? Unfortunately, the answer is suicide.
CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably) is a registered UK charity which aims to reduce the suicide rate and provide support for those suffering from mental illness or depression. CALM promotes and delivers a free, confidential, anonymous helpline [0800 585858] which is open 5pm-midnight on Sat, Sun, Mon and Tues. However, the need is so great that CALM is seeking to run their national freephone helpline & text messaging service 7 nights a week. Here is where you come in!
To raise funds for the helpline, some of Manchester’s brightest bands have put together a compilation album called Thirty One. The album features rare and exclusive tracks from Bad Lieutenant (featuring Bernard Sumner, Stephens Morris and Phil Cunningham of New Order as well as appearances from Blur bassist Alex James), Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Elbow, The Whip, I Am Kloot, Durutti Column, D/R/U/G/S, Delphic, Airship and many more. All profits from the release will go to CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably). http://www.thecalmzone.net/ with £7 from every £10 album sold funding the helpline.
