Drive

Ever wish the movie Drive and its soundtrack were a Sega game…?

Holy Crap! Our inner geeks just exploded with happiness. Somebody with perhaps WAY too much time on their hands just put together this video, as if the film Drive was made into a Sega Genesis game circa 1994.

The iconic track, A Real Hero by College ft Electric Youth was made with an emulator for the Yamaha YM2612, the chip used to create the sound in the Sega Genesis. Meanwhile, the video shows the start menu for the supposed game in 9-bit colour, divvied up into 4 palettes of 15+alpha colours each.

Electric Youth

Stream Electric Youth’s new single, The Best Thing

Yes, in fact Electric Youth was named after the Debbie Gibson record…and why not? The Toronto duo/couple of Bronwyn and Austin have a deep love for 80s Pop music and pop culture in general that is reflected in their music.

However unlike Gibson, Tiffany and other vapid contemporaries of the day, Electric Youth are part of the well respected Valerie Collective, which includes artists like College and Anoraak. Theirs is a wonderful sound which is inexplicably modern and nostalgic at the same time.

The duo got their big breakthrough, when A Real Hero, their collaboration with College was featured on the soundtrack to the film Drive. So widespread is the reach of that soundtrack, that it has spawned its own tour. Electric Youth has been on the road this summer with College and Anoraak as part of the Drive Tour.

College, Electric Youth and Anoraak featured on The Drive Tour

One of the most beloved Soundtracks in recent memory is getting its own tour! The Soundtrack to the film Drive, is full of dreamy mood-setting pieces by composer Cliff Martinez. Along with the instrumentals are the thumping opening theme Nightcall by Kavinsky ft. Lovefoxx and a couple of tunes from Italians Do It Better label head Johhny Jewel with his projects Desire and Chromatics.

However, there may not be a song that standouts more than A Real Hero from College ft Electric Youth. College is composer David Grellier also of the outfit Sexy Sushi and the Collective Electronic blog, Valerie. Along with Valerie collaborator Anoraak, and Canadian Electropop duo Electric Youth (featured on A Real Hero), Grellier has put together The Drive Tour. The tour will take the trio of artists across North America this summer.
