There’s lots of Bowie in the air and on the airwaves. Just weeks after Beck reimagined David Bowie’s Sound and Vision with a 160+ piece orchestra for the Lincoln Motor Company’s Hello Again Series, and days after Bowie released the 2nd single from his forthcoming The Next Day LP, Sony is taking a crack at the Bowie classic.
Sony Mobile Communications has revealed an ambitious marketing campaign for its new premium Xperia Z smartphone, utilising the talents of celebrated director Tarsem Singh. Singh previously directed memorable videos including REM’s Losing My Religion and Deep Forest’s Sweet Lullaby as well as feature films like The Fall, Immortals and Mirror Mirror. Continue reading →

We are inching ever closer to the release of David Bowie’s new LP, The Next Day. Already receiving rave reviews, the new album is due Mar 12. Thankfully, to tide us over, we now have the 2nd single. Following up the sweeping ballad, Where Are They Now, is the decidedly more guitar rock oriented The Stars (Are Out Tonight).
The video stars Bowie and Tilda Swinton as a married couple whose normal suburban life is upturned by androgynous models Andrej Pejic and Saskia De Brauw. Continue reading →

It’s been an amazing last few months or so with unexpected new music and/or tours from New Order, Depeche Mode, New Order, David Bowie, Suede, Pulp and more. While we once again were denied a reunion of The Smiths (they turned down yet another overture from Coachella), today brings another surprise.
The Postal Service, an Indietronic duo comprised of Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) and Jimmy Tamborello (DNTEL, Headset) took the Indie world by storm in 2003 with their LP, Give Up. Infectious pop from top to bottom, the quirk was that Tamborello recorded instrumental tracks and sent them to Gibbard who recorded vocals and sent them back all through the US Postal Service. Let’s review some of the goodies that we have been blessed with so.

The whole thing is a seamless mix designed to highlight the full scope of Bowie’s genius.
While the audio portion alone is worth the listen, the whole thing is backed with a dizzying array of visual images by Wim Reygaert.

To celebrate their 60th anniversary, UK Music Publication NME, is asking readers to pick just ONE Ultimate icon. Wow, what a daunting task, but we are hoping it will create some interesting conversation. Who would it be for you? We imagine that from the shortlist of candidates, there would be a lot of votes for Morrissey, Robert Smith, David Bowie or Ian Curtis but we’d love to hear what you think. Anybody that is glaringly missing from the list or ridiculously included?

Ziggy Stardust…Aladdin Sane…The Thin White Duke; Bowie can be anyone. Nobody can be Bowie, but that doesn’t stop them from trying. The original Rock-Pop Chameleon has changed his colors with the times, perhaps more successfully than any modern artist. He has bridged the gap from late 60′s-early 70′s Psychedlic Folk, Mid-70′s Glam, late 70′s Soul, Funk and Disco, 80′s Pop, 90′s Electronica and so on. Along the way, he has influenced generations of artists like Iggy Pop, The Smiths and Morrissey, The Cure, Pixies, Suede, Placebo, Blur, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails and more. That being said, Bowie is the perfect subject for Strangeways’ latest Under the Covers series.
