Shoegaze Spotlight: Beach Fossils

Beach Fossils is a Brooklyn-based group, formed in early 2009 by Dustin Payseur. After signing to Captured Tracks, the band straightaway went on an extensive tour across the United States, playing an incredible amount of shows and, in so doing, gained quite a devoted fan base nationally.

In May of 2009, their debut LP, Beach Fossils, gained favorable reviews and the band became known for their jangly, single note guitar style, dusted with summer-fueled romance.

Craft Spells announces new EP on Captured Tracks, SXSW dates

Indie-Synth darlings Craft Spells, are back with a new single and a forthcoming EP. The band began as a Bedroom Pop project in 2009 for Stockton, CA’s Justin Paul Vallesteros. It didn’t take long, however, for Blogs like Weekly Tape Deck, Pasta Primavera, No Modest Bear and Pitchfork’s Forkcast to take notice as well as Strangeway Radio. We were all over their 2011 debut LP Idle Labor which featured a seemingly endless supply of heavenly pop bliss on tracks like For The Ages, Scandinavian Crush, The Fog Rose High, Party Talk, From The Morning Heat, After The Moment and more! They spent much of 2011 touring with The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart as well as Captured Tracks labelmates, Beach Fossils.

Craft Spells have announced a follow up EP called Gallery due May 15 on Captured Tracks. Meanwhile, the band will be on display at SXSW.

Electropop band Thieves Like Us release new single, prepare for Captured Tracks debut

Thieves Like Us are an Electropop band featuring American vocalist Andy Grier and 2 Swedish musicans, Bjorn Berglund and Pontus Berghe. Named after the 1984 New Order song, the Paris-based band first caught the attention of the Strangeways DJs in 2009. Their debut LP, Play Music featured infectious singles like Drugs In My Body and Your Heart Feels. In 2010, they furthered their vintage electronic sound, wearing their influences on their sleeves, with Sophomore record Again and Again as well as the 2 CD Again and Again Remixed.

2011 was a big year for the band, signing to one of our favorite labels, Captured Tracks for the Your Love Runs Still EP. Now, in 2012 the band is gearing up for a full length record on Captured Tracks. Their 3rd record, Bleed Bleed Bleed is coming soon and the band have just released the stellar first single, Marie Marie. Just TRY to get this one out of your head!

Blouse – Videotapes (video) + full album stream

Portland Oregon’s Blouse seemed to just come out of nowhere, teasing us with the brilliant Bliss-Pop single, Into Black, followed by Shadow, Nights and Days and Firestarter.

Then, in preparation for their full length debut, on Captured Tracks, they began leaking nugget after nugget, including the standout, Videotapes. Led by the dreamy vocals of Charlie Hilton, the album is a modern, woozy take on 80s Retro Synth.
