Paper Bag Records Vs. David Bowie – free download!

Indie label Paper Bag Records, home to such artists as Austra, Young Galaxy and PS I Love You is celebrating their 10th anniversary this week with three nights of live music at The Great Hall in Toronto.

Even better, the artists have gotten together to cover David Bowie’s classic LP, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. Better still, the whole thing can be downloaded for free.

Austra, School Of Seven Bells contribute to 15 year anniversary of OK Computer

The German magazine, Music Express, has recently assembled a tribute album celebrating the 15 year anniversary of Radiohead’s legendary OK Computer album. This compilation features contributes from two of Strangeways listeners most beloved bands. Austra takes on Paranoid Android while School Of Seven Bells provides their interpretation of Subterranean Homesick Alien.

Austra releases creepy, mysterious new video for Spellwork

Toronto trio Austra has been getting a lot of love lately, gracing the playlist of many Strangeways Radio DJs as well as placing in Best of 2011 lists from our DJs and listeners.

The electronic beats and strong vocals of Katie Stelmanis call to mind contemporaries like Florence and The Machine, Zola Jesus and Siouxsie & The Banshees on tracks like Lose It and The Beat and the Pulse from their debut record, Feel It Break.

The band just released an absolutely wild video for their latest single Spellwork, featuring all sorts of sinister behavior going on the Woods, featuring Witches in black robes, a creepy Red-Hooded Sister cult, horses and disturbing use of Watermelon.
