Holy Crap! Our inner geeks just exploded with happiness. Somebody with perhaps WAY too much time on their hands just put together this video, as if the film Drive was made into a Sega Genesis game circa 1994.
The iconic track, A Real Hero by College ft Electric Youth was made with an emulator for the Yamaha YM2612, the chip used to create the sound in the Sega Genesis. Meanwhile, the video shows the start menu for the supposed game in 9-bit colour, divvied up into 4 palettes of 15+alpha colours each.

There’s lots of Bowie in the air and on the airwaves. Just weeks after Beck reimagined David Bowie’s Sound and Vision with a 160+ piece orchestra for the Lincoln Motor Company’s Hello Again Series, and days after Bowie released the 2nd single from his forthcoming The Next Day LP, Sony is taking a crack at the Bowie classic.
Sony Mobile Communications has revealed an ambitious marketing campaign for its new premium Xperia Z smartphone, utilising the talents of celebrated director Tarsem Singh. Singh previously directed memorable videos including REM’s Losing My Religion and Deep Forest’s Sweet Lullaby as well as feature films like The Fall, Immortals and Mirror Mirror. Continue reading →

We are inching ever closer to the release of David Bowie’s new LP, The Next Day. Already receiving rave reviews, the new album is due Mar 12. Thankfully, to tide us over, we now have the 2nd single. Following up the sweeping ballad, Where Are They Now, is the decidedly more guitar rock oriented The Stars (Are Out Tonight).
The video stars Bowie and Tilda Swinton as a married couple whose normal suburban life is upturned by androgynous models Andrej Pejic and Saskia De Brauw. Continue reading →

Sweden’s The Mary Onettes are one of Strangeways’ favorite recent artists. From the very first time we heard the JAMC-esque Explosions from their debut LP, we were hooked. Following their 2nd album, Islands, a US tour was derailed by, of all things, a volcano!
Frontman Philip Ekstrom previewed the new record with two solo shows in Brooklyn this week with no natural disaster getting in the way. The 3rd LP, Hit The Waves sees the band moving away from their early Post-Punk guitar sound to a more Synth based style. The first single, Evil Coast was released a few months ago, and tomorrow sees the release of the 2nd single, the title track from the new LP. The Hit The Waves LP is due March 12 with the single available digitally on February 21.
