The National are doing their best to keep us satisfied as we await the release of the new LP, Trouble Will Find Me. About a month ago, the band made the track Demons available through iTunes with pre-order of the new LP.
The last couple of weeks has seen a flurry of activity with an appearance on Jimmy Fallon, the announcement of new tour dates and a collaboration with Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson where they performed Sorrow for 6 straight hours.

The Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit, a 3-day festival in Asheville, NC announced its lineup today. Ummmm…WANT!
The line up based around contemporary electronic music and creative use of technology features some legendary artists along with some of today’s exciting new acts. Headliners include Nine Inch Nails, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and a reformed Neutral Milk Hotel. Meanwhile, the best of the rest includes performances from Gary Numan, How To Destroy Angels, Chromatics, Tricky, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Zola Jesus, Animal Collective and more!

We’re only a few months in and 2013 is turning out to be an amazing year for music! We’ve seen the return of classic artists like David Bowie, Depeche Mode, OMD, My Bloody Valentine and Suede and festival performances by The Cure, New Order, Pulp and The Stone Roses. The shows on Strangeways have been overflowing with new artists to the point that we could probably do our best of 2013 shows in April! However, it’s probably the tours that have people the most excited and we want to help our listeners get to these shows.
We have hooked up with several promoters here in the Detroit area and our next Atmosphere event on April 20, DJ Mikey and DJ Pinknoise have a plethora of tickets to giveaway. Let’s highlight some of these great shows.

A couple of days ago, we posted the epic video for Sigur Rós’ Brennistein. The track precedes their forthcoming LP, Kveikur which is set for release on June 17. On Friday, they performed on Jimmy Fallon, their first television performance in a decade. They played the title track from the new record.
All of this is in preparation for a massive world tour, kicking off this week. Check out the Fallon performance after the tour dates.

Depeche Mode fever is in the air! The new record, Delta Machine is set for release March 26. Fueling the fire, the band has released a slew of North American tour dates. It seems that Toronto Synth duo, Crystal Castles have been selected to open at least 2 dates thus far; Houston on September 18th and Los Angeles on September 29th.

In anticipation of the April 8th release of English Electric, the synthpop duo OMD has leaked one of the new album tracks called Night Cafe. Night Cafe is being considered as a possible single off of the new album, and when asked about it, Paul Humphreys described the song as “She’s Leaving Meets Souvenir”.

English synthpop duo Hurts have released their long awaited second album, ‘Exile’, this week. The first single “The Road” came out in advance back in December 2012 when the recording of the album was announced. The lead single, Miracle, was released in January. Anxious fans can now hear the full length album as a download, which includes 2 additional tracks and a 10 minute making-of-the-album video. It is also out as a standard album and deluxe CD/DVD with contains 2 bonus tracks and a 30 minute documentary of the bands recent Russian tour. The album will also be available to vinyl lovers as a double LP.

We are just loving 2013 so far! Less than 2 months in and many of our favorite bands of yore are duking it out for our attention. Next up, Glasgow’s New Wave/Post-Punk legends Simple Minds.
We last heard new material from Simple Minds in 2009 on Graffiti Soul, their 15th studio LP. The career-spanning “Simple Minds – Celebrate – The Greatest Hits” will feature 2 new tracks, Broken Glass Park and Blood Diamonds and coincide with their massive 2013 Greatest Hits tour of the UK.

The Sasquatch! Music Festival, a yearly Washington State Memorial Day weekend tradition, has announced its 2013 lineup and it looks like Indie Heaven. A reunited The Postal Service are on board along with Sigur Ros, Bloc Party, The XX, Twin Shadow, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, DIIV, Chrvches, Porcelain Raft, Tame Impala, Toro Y Moi, Grimes and tons and tons more with comedians Mike Birbiglia and Nick Offerman also on hand.

The Postal Service reunion is indeed happening! After the cryptic Postal Service 2013 message on their site a few weeks back, the duo have announced official tour dates. The dates which include Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis, also coincide with the 10th anniversary release of their debut LP, Give Up. The reissue will be out April 9 in the U.S. and April 8 in the UK and will come in a deluxe edition with 2 new songs, remixes and cover versions.

Heads up, Electronic music fans! It’s the one time of year Detroit is an actual legitimate tourist destination. Started in 2000 as DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival) and morphing into Movement in 2006, the festival has brought millions of Electronic fans to Downtown Detroit for performances by some huge name Electronic musicians and DJs as well as rising stars in the scene. Held each year during Memorial Day weekend, the festival has become a mecca for Electronic fans and DJs from around the world.
