We’re only a few months in and 2013 is turning out to be an amazing year for music! We’ve seen the return of classic artists like David Bowie, Depeche Mode, OMD, My Bloody Valentine and Suede and festival performances by The Cure, New Order, Pulp and The Stone Roses. The shows on Strangeways have been overflowing with new artists to the point that we could probably do our best of 2013 shows in April! However, it’s probably the tours that have people the most excited and we want to help our listeners get to these shows.
We have hooked up with several promoters here in the Detroit area and our next Atmosphere event on April 20, DJ Mikey and DJ Pinknoise have a plethora of tickets to giveaway. Let’s highlight some of these great shows.

Douglas J McCarthy’s first solo album titled ‘Kill Your Friends’ was released on November 23rd through Pylon Records. McCarthy is best known for being a key part of the electronic world as the co-founder of Nitzer Ebb. ‘Kill Your Friends’ is available in two physical formats, vinyl and CD. The ‘Kill Your Friends’ Bundle comes with a signed ltd color vinyl, a bonus cd, regular cd, t-shirt and a sticker. Pylon is also selling the Vinyl (comes with bonus cd) and regular CD individually. There is also a Douglas McCarthy iPad sleeve available on the Pylon website.

M83 has been very busy. Not only are they at the tail end of a fabulous world tour, but they have now launched two new collaborations. The have teams up with the shoe company Converse to sponsor a contest where participants can contribute original artwork inspired by M83′s “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” album. The winners will have their artwork appear on M83 posters as well as receive customized M83 sneakers.
M83 has also agreed to write the score for a movie called Oblivion featuring Tom Cruise. This film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski whose most recent work includes Tron: Legacy and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Continue reading →

Electronic pioneer Moby has recently collaborated with swiss watch maker SWATCH on a special edition ‘Little Idiot’ watch. Little Idiot is a animated character that has appeared in Moby videos and cover art.
The watch is a limited edition and comes in special packaging, with prints of Moby’s hand drawn ‘Little Idiot’ character on the watch and the packaging. This collectors item can be purchased at the Swatch Store.

Shirley Manson, Butch Vig and the rest of the gang are plotting their epic return and they’re using the Internet to tease, torment and tantalize you. Their 5th record, Not Your Kind Of People is set for a May 15th release, and over the last few months, they have been dropping teaser preview trailers. Recently, they reached out to their adoring fans, affectionately referred to as their ‘Darklings’ and requested submissions of love-hating art.
