The Mystic Underground are a new Synthpop duo that has quickly won over the Strangeways DJs and listeners. Their debut EP, Dreamers and Lovers is a danceable, singable collage of 80s influences including Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and David Bowie along with modern artists like Hurts and Underworld.
Comprised of vocalist/lyricist Vladimir Valette and musician/composer Benedetto Socci, the duo formed in the early 2000s in the NYC suburb of Port Jefferson Station. The Mystic Underground now hail from the most fertile of musical landscapes, the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Brooklyn has graced us with such recent aural treats that litter the Strangeways playlists such as Twin Shadow, Selebrities, Night Vision, New Look, Light Asylum, Lemonade, Beach Fossils, DIIV, Cults, Sleigh Bells, A Place To Bury Strangers and more as well as recent bands that have broken mainstream like LCD Soundsystem, The National, Yeah Yeahs and MGMT.
The Mystic Underground are threatening to be the next name to emerge from Brooklyn with the Dreamers And Lovers EP released 3 July 2012 via band’s own Stereosonic Recordings label. The self-produced EP features ‘Discord And Panic’ which has already received substantial blog acclaim and internet radio play on BBC 6′s Introducing programme hosted by Tom Robinson as well as here at Strangeways Radio.
‘Remember Me’ is also generating heavy play on Strangeways Radio and is currently being serviced. The song is currently available as a free download on the band’s Facebook page.
Now, the duo have released a video for new track Evelyn, You’ll Be The Death of Me which you can view below. Remixes by The Invisible Kid and German synth-pop icons Beborn Beton flesh out the rest of the EP which is available for download through Bandcamp for only $3! Stream the entire EP below and then click the Buy link to purchase.
The Mystic Underground is currently in the process of recording a new album that they hope to have out in the spring of 2013. They plan to tour the East coast of the US during the summer with an eye towards making their way to Europe as well.
