Delerium Monarch

Delerium releases new single Monarch off of forthcoming cd Music Box Opera

Electronica pioneers Delerium have released a brand new single off of their forthcoming studio album Music Box Opera. The single is called Monarch and it features the vocals of Lebanese singer Nadina Zarifeh. The album is scheduled for a fall release. There is no word yet on what other vocalists will be featured.

Moby

Moby releases new version of Extreme Ways for The Bourne Legacy soundtrack

Moby has recored a new version of Extreme Ways for The Bourne Legacy soundtrack. Extreme Ways originally appeared on the 2002′s 18 album. The new recording is unique in that it was recored with a 110 piece orchestra. The new single will be released tomorrow (Tuesday, July 31st) on iTunes and the movie will be out in August.

Trip-hop pioneer Esthero is offering fans a free download for the track Over, a song from her forthcoming release Everything Is Expensive. This is the second preview that Esthero has made available, the first being the single Never Let You Go which was released in May. Everything Is Expensive will be Esthero’s first studio album in 7 years, and her fans are eager to hear the complete body of work.

Ride Poster

Ride frontman Mark Gardener sets solo dates to celebrate Going Blank Again’s 20th Anniversary

Mark Gardener, the former frontman for Shoegaze heroes, Ride, is taking some of his classics on the road. Following a string of West Coast US dates, Gardener has set a series of gigs for Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Germany and Poland.

The tour reflects a reawakening of Worldwide Ride interest. 2011 saw Ride featured in the Creation records story Upside Down, as well deluxe re-issues of classic Ride records, Nowhere and Going Blank Again.

Is there a forthcoming collaboration between The Church’s Steve Kilbey and The Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli?

Could a collaboration be forthconming between The Church frontman Steve Kilbey and The Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers frontman Greg Dulli? In a recent post on Kilbey’s site, The Time Being, he detailed a meeting with Dulli, one of his musical heroes. Kilbey begins with a sentiment that we all know;
“just cos you like someones music doesn’t mean you will like them or they will like you…in fact it might mean some great awkward balls-up… or some embarrassing gushing or something…”

Strangeways late night roundup: Watch The XX on Conan, Beach House on Fallon

A couple of Strangeways favorites graced the small screen last night. The XX stopped by TBS’ Conan to perfom ‘Angels, the gorgeous first single from their forthcoming Sophomore release, Coexist. Later that evening it was Beach House on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The Sub Pop band performed ‘Wild’ and ‘Wishes’ both from their latest record, Bloom.

Purity Rings

Purity Ring new album Shrine released on 4AD records

The Canadian duo Purity Ring has just released their debut album Shrines on 4AD records.  Purity Ring was formed in 2010 and is comprised of the young duo of Corin (21) and Megan (24).  The album features 11 tracks of synthy dream pop with some R&B influences.  Last night, a CD release party in New York marked the beginning of an exciting year for Purity Ring, and that excitement will carry on throughout the year as the band embarks on a US tour through September.

Tamaryn

Listen to Tamaryn’s I’m Gone; first track from forthcoming Sophomore release Tender New Signs

In 2010, San Francisco Shoegaze artist Tamaryn made ‘waves’ (see what we did there?) on Strangeways Radio with their debut record. They quickly became favorites amongst listeners and DJ’s alike with tracks like Love Fade and Dawning. A huge 2011 tour supporting The Raveonettes further solidified their standing as an up and coming band to keep eyes and ears on.

Thankfully, the long wait for new material is over. While their Sophomore record, Tender New Signs won’t be released until Ooctober 16th, the dreamy first single, I’m Gone is here!

School of Seven Bells cover Lil Wayne’s How To Love; offer free download

School of Seven Bells have done it again! The NYC duo of Benjamin Curtis and Alejandra Deheza are becoming masters of the Cover Version. Earlier this year, they followed up the release of the album Ghostory with a cover of the Siouxsie & The Banshees’ classic, Kiss Them for Me. Then, just a couple of days ago, we posted their cover of Subterranean Homesick Alien for a tribute album to Radiohead’s OK Computer.

Today, they have released a cover of Lil Wayne’s How To Love and offered it as a free download.

Archive release Violently, off of forthcoming With Us Until You’re Dead album

A new album from electronic-triphop artist Archive will be released on August 27th on the Dangervisit Records label. The album will be called With Us Until You’re Dead. The first single and vidoe off the album is called Violently, and it was released on an EP called Wiped Out/Violently which was released on July 2nd. Darius has called Violently – one of the darkest and most powerful songs we’ve ever done.

New Order

New Order Announces 2012 North American Tour Dates

As reported by Rolling Stone,  New Order has announced a series of seven North American tour dates beginning on October 5th.  The tour includes visits to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas, New York City, Chicago and Toronto.  This will mark New Orders first time in the US in almost 7 years.  As expected, this tour does not include the bass services or Peter Hook.

The German magazine, Music Express, has recently assembled a tribute album celebrating the 15 year anniversary of Radiohead’s legendary OK Computer album. This compilation features contributes from two of Strangeways listeners most beloved bands. Austra takes on Paranoid Android while School Of Seven Bells provides their interpretation of Subterranean Homesick Alien.
