While the album may be brand new, there is a good chance that many of your have heard of them. They have a number of videos that have been generating some buzz, including one for Scarlet.
This London band has been receiving rave reviews and drawing comparisons to the likes of Garbage and Curve. 2:54 has a rapidly growing fan base, as Strangeways was recently made aware of. Today marks the 15th anniversary of one of our generation’s great musical losses. Singer-Songwriter Jeff Buckley drowned in Tennessee’s Wolf River with only only studio record release, the brilliant debut Grace. Posthumously, Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk, a double-album collection of unreleased studio tracks and four-track demos was released in 1998 as well as the 4 song EP, Live at Sin-é in 1993. In his tragically short recording career, Buckley left behind a legacy, not only influencing a new generation of artists, but inspiring songs written about him, including those by Cocteau Twins, PJ Harvey and Duncan Sheik.

Canadian Singer-Songwriter Esthero is getting set to release her first new album in seven years. She first burst onto the scene in 1998 with the Triphop classic record Breath From Another. Although fans and critics both loved the album, she was dropped from Sony due to poor sales. 7 years later she released Wikked Lil’ Grrrls on reprise in 2005. In the past 7 years she has kept herself busy collaborating with the likes of TImbaland, Kanye, The FRay, Kidz In the Hall, and Rye Rye on the recent 21 Jump Street theme.
However, fans are hoping for new solo Esthero material and they may just get it, curiously after 7 years again. There have been hints of a 3rd album called Everything Is Expensive floating around the web for a couple of years. However, Esthero has just confirmed the first single from the record. Never Gonna Let You Go had been out there for a couple of years, with Perez Hilton featuring it as his anthem as far back as 2008. The single will be available for purchase through Amazon starting June 5.

The 80s sound that we all grew up with is making a revival. Modern bands such as New Division, Cut Copy, Glass Candy, Computers Want Me Dead and many more are putting out new records that take the classic 80s synth sounds and make them relevant again. While we are big fans of these new bands, we thought it would be proper to pay tribute to the original 80s classics in our Under The Covers series.

In an era of artists, touring behind Classic Albums, comes a tour behind one of the biggest of the 80′s. Peter Gabriel’s SO, released in 1986 was a massive crossover hit. The record charted at #1 in the UK, #2 on US Billboard charts going triple platinum in the UK and five times platinum in the US.
Gabriel has announced plans to tour in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the album’s release.
Focusing on the entirety of that multi-platinum album, the tour, entitled BACK TO FRONT, will feature Gabriel with many of the members of the original band he toured with 25 years ago and will feature the album’s songs from start to finish plus some of his other biggest hits.

Not quite as revered as the 80s, the 90′s is still a decade of Britpop (Blur, Radiohead, James, Suede, Pulp, Happy Mondays), Electronica (Leftfield, The KLF, The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Daft Punk), Pop-Punk (Ash, Green Day, Weezer), Grunge Rock (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Hole), Rap (2PAC, Wu-Tang Clan, Warren G), and even heroes of the 80′s still kicking out classics (u2, REM, New Order).
Check out NME’s list of the 100 Best tracks of the Nineties and then let us know YOUR opinion? Any favorites not listed here? Anything you are appalled by that was included? Let’s hear it!

Strangeways has opened its vault to take a look at one of the first songs released by The Smiths. Reel Around The Fountain is the first track on The Smiths debut self-titled album and to this day still remains a favorite of many fans.
Like most things Morrissey related, this song comes with lots of discussion and controversy. The songs opens up with the line It’s Time The Tale Were Told, and by the songs end you will inevitably find yourself wondering what it’s all about, and then you may come to realize that the tale has still not been told.

Vancouver band Mode Moderne has just released their new EP called Strange Bruises on Light Organ Records. The EP takes the band in a more dance/indie rock direction. However, they still maintain some of their dark and moody vibe on tracks like Electrocute Me. Several of the tracks have a certain New Order bass sound to them, which is something we can all appreciate.
Mode Moderne has become a staple in the lineup of several of the Strangeways DJ’s with gems like Electrocute Me, Real Goths, and Radio Heartbeat
