
Robert Smith has one of the most recognizable and iconic voices of our generation. With over 13 studio albums, Robert and his band (The Cure) are still going strong. Over the past decade, Robert has contributed his voice talents to several other artists to build up an amazing library of collaborations. From old-timers Paul Hartnoll to newcomers Japanese Popstars, Robert has added his personal touch to their sounds and produced results that Cure fans should embrace.
Robert has also regularly worked with Siouxsie And The Banshees and a project called The Glove. Check out some of the collaborations below.
Japanese Popstars – Take Forever (RS @ Home Remix)
Robert Smith teamed up with Irish band Japanese Popstars on their second album, Controlling Your Allegiance. A digital EP for Take Forever followed which included four remixes of the single, including a remix done by Mr. Smith himself. The RS @ Home Remix brings a typical Cure downtempo sound to the otherwise upbeat electronic song.
Crystal Castles – Not In Love
Robert Smith contributed to the third single from Crystal Castle’s self titled 2010 album for a cover of the Platinum Blonde song, Not In Love. This collaboration resulted in Crystal Castle’s highest charting single. This track has turned in to a club favorite for various events hosted by Strangeways DJ’s.
Reeves Gabrels – Yesterday’s Gone
Reeves Gabrels is best known for his 90s work as guitarist for David Bowie on the Tin Machine project, and on Bowie’s albums Outside, Earthling, and Hours. In 2000, Smith teamed up with Reeves Gabrels on Reeve’s solo album Ulysses with the track Yesterday’s Gone. Other guests on Ulysses include David Bowie, Frank Black, and Dave Grohl.
Junkie XL – Perfect Blue Sky
In 2005, Junkie XL released the album Radio JXL-A Broadcast From The Computerhell Cabin which was an album full of collaborations. Robert Smith contributed with Perfect Blue Sky. Other artists who contributed on the album were Dave Gahan, Gary Numan, Harland and Peter Tosh.
Billy Corgan – To Love Somebody
Smashing Pumpkin’s vocalist, Billy Corgan, released his only solo album called The Future Embrace in 2005. He joined forces with Robert Smith to cover the Bee Gee’s To Love Somebody for one of the standout tracks on the album.
Paul Hartnoll – Please
Paul Hartnoll, along with his brother Phil, were members of the late 80′s electronic act Orbital. Orbital split up in 2004, and a few years layer, Paul released his first solo album called The Ideal Condition. Robert Smith collaborated with Paul for the single called Please.
South Park
Lets not forget Robert Smith’s appearance on South Park where he had a Roshambo contest with Cartman and where Kyle claimed that “Disintegration is the best album ever!”.
