This article highlights some of the new music that was released the week ending June 21, 2019
Hatchie
Australian singer Hatchie released her first album Keepsake today. The album has the appeal of a slightly poppier Cocteau Twins. Several singles have been released in advance of the album, including Stay With Me and Without A Blush. So many times singles come out in advance of an album and then the rest of the album disappoints. Not the case here. Every song is a worthy listen. My favorite new ones are Secret and this selection, the dreamy Her Own Heart.
The Ocean Blue
Similar to Hatchie, The Ocean Blue has released a number of amazing singles in advanced of their new album Kings And Queens / Knaves And Thieves. The full album is out and there are plenty of other great tracks to enjoy. Other than the singles, the track Love Doesn’t Make It Easy On Us stands out as a wonderfully dreamy track.
Empathy Test
Empathy Test is on the road with Actors and they have released an EP at the same time. Empty Handed is the title track and it’s a synthpop gem that sounds like a hybrid of some dark IAMX mixed with a more poppy Pet Shop Boys. That’s a great combo to me!
Prince
The owners of the Prince vault have released an album called Originals which contains Prince renditions of songs that he wrote for The Time, Appolonia 6, The Bangles, and many more artists. This is a must have for any collector. Many of the songs sound very similar to the version that you are familiar with. One of my favorites is his version of Sex Shooter featured below
